About the Nakupuna Companies

The Nakupuna Companies are a Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO)-owned family of companies comprising 8(a) small disadvantaged businesses dedicated to providing innovative and impactful solutions to their customers while supporting the Native Hawaiian Community. Specializing in management consulting, IT, facilities support and environmental services, the Nakupuna Companies excel at finding elegant approaches that solve their clients’ toughest technical, programmatic and logistical challenges. Headquartered in Honolulu, HI, with offices in Arlington, VA, Mechanicsburg, PA, St. Louis, MO, Charleston, SC, and Denver, CO, the Nakupuna Companies offer the diverse workforce and resources of a national company with the contractual advantages and startup ingenuity of a small business.

The Nakupuna Companies are majority owned by the Nakupuna Foundation, a nonprofit with a mission to support the economic advancement of the Native Hawaiian Community. A cornerstone of the Nakupuna Foundation’s support includes preparing Native Hawaiians for 21st Century job opportunities through a portfolio of targeted investments in STEM educational programs. Additional support is targeted to include Hawaiian cultural preservation as well as aiding and supporting veterans and military families.

 

The Situation

The Nakupuna Companies have a complex business structure involving multiple entities. The Nakupuna team relies on Dan Larson for assistance with tax planning and compliance as well as issues unique to government contracting. Jennifer Rock and her audit and accounting team provide financial statement audits for Nakupuna’s for-profit entities, as well as its 401(k) plan.
