The Highlands School serves children with dyslexia, ADHD and language-based learning differences. This private school operates on a simple premise: that each child has a unique learning style just waiting to be discovered. More than 100 students each year receive individualized instruction. The Highlands School offers a comprehensive school year program, a variety of summer programs, a home school extension program and tutoring services. Based in Harford County, Maryland, The Highlands School received the prestigious Harford Award when it was named nonprofit of the year in 2010.
The Highlands School hired Gross Mendelsohn in 2009 to conduct its annual audit, prepare financial statements and complete Form 990. The school primarily works with Tricia Thomas, Lisa Johnson and Ernie Paszkiewicz of the firm’s audit department.
“We have an excellent working relationship with Gross Mendelsohn. Whenever I've had questions or comments my input is well received, and questions are answered quickly and accurately.
It’s important that our CPA firm has knowledge of how a private school operates. Gross Mendelsohn has that expertise. Likewise, the people at Gross Mendelsohn have been very respectful of my knowledge of the school and take the time to listen to any insight I share.
The financial statements prepared by Gross Mendelsohn are very clear, and as a result are easy for the school, board members and other agencies to understand.”
