“When I took a look at our scorecard for the first time, I immediately saw where we were falling short in Medicare reimbursement and our average daily reimbursement. I was also able to review cost areas and see how we compare to our industry peers.
After reviewing our scorecard, we started further analyzing MDS coding to help improve our averages and figuring out areas where we could cut costs, without compromising quality. Having this information truly assisted us in examining our facility's finances and determining what changes needed to be made.
One particular example that comes to mind is our food costs. Our scorecard showed us that we were spending too much, so we decided to change distributors, and we're now getting the same quality we were previously for a better price.
Overall, I'm happy to say that in reviewing our most recent scorecard, we have advanced ahead. The changes we made are working, and we have the numbers to prove it.”
