How to Prepare for Your Headshot
What To Wear

- Business casual — to showcase the down-to-earth culture of our firm, wear business casual for your headshot. No suits and/or ties, please.
-
Solid colors — wearing solid colors vs patterns can help highlight your features and limit distraction.
What Not To Wear

- Patterns — patterned shirts or jackets tend to draw attention away from your face and can date pictures more quickly. Be wary of tiny patterns on collared shirts, which can look pixilated on a screen.
- Oversized jewelry
-
Shirts with "texture" — clothing with frills or any other textured pattern can make your photo look busy.
- All white or all black — too much of these neutral tones can make you look washed out (even in the best lighting).
-
A suit and/or tie
Other Considerations
The following items have been adapted from Gross Mendelsohn's staff manual and should be used as guidance for your firm photo:
-
Tattoos should be covered to the best of your ability.
-
Nose rings, face piercings and ear gauges should not be worn. For your photo, a subtle pair of earrings in a standard ear piercing is okay, but earrings in multiple/non-standard ear piercings are not recommended.
- Facial hair should be well manicured.
-
Do not wear attire that is too revealing, too short or tight fitting, or has frayed edges or is faded.
