Internships at the firm

Many members of our staff begin their careers at Gross Mendelsohn as interns.

On-the-job experience

As an intern you'll function as an entry level staff accountant, completing tasks related to general accounting and bookkeeping, payroll tax returns, individual tax returns, and audits, reviews and compilations. You'll also work closely with experienced CPAs and partners, receive feedback on your performance and participate in in-house training programs.

Frequently asked questions

When is the internship?

Recruitment for internships begin in early fall. Internships generally begin the second week of January and run through April 15. Internships can be extended based on the availability of work and the intern’s job performance.

 

Is this internship paid?

The firm offers paid internships. Starting pay is $22 per hour. Interns who work for us for several years earn increases based on performance. The current range for returning interns is $22-27 per hour.

 

What are the hours and are you flexible with class schedules?

We are flexible and will work around your school schedule. However, for an internship to be meaningful we expect interns to work 20-25 hours per week. We expect that you will be committed to whatever schedule we agree to. Audit intern positions require the ability to work in full day or mostly full day increments for at least two business days a week. Saturday hours are also required for audit and tax internships (minimum of four hours on Saturday).

 

How do I apply for an internship?

Am I required to have certain accounting classes under my belt?

We prefer that an intern candidate is at least a sophomore and preferably a junior who has completed intermediate accounting course. Seniors will also be considered. Intern candidates must be accounting majors.

 

What will my duties be?

Our interns perform as entry level staff accountants. They complete tasks related to general accounting and bookkeeping, payroll tax returns, individual tax returns, and reviews, compilations and audits.

 

Which departments offer internships?

Gross Mendelsohn offers internships in its audit and accounting (A&A) department and its tax department. Interns working in those departments will be exposed to clients in many industries, such as construction, real estate, nonprofit, and manufacturing and distribution.
